Abstract : Among many Plasmodium proteins involved in the erythrocytic cycle, some exposed on the erythrocyte surface drive antigenic variability. Recently, Harrison et al. elucidated the structural basis by which RIFINs activate LILRB1 and suppress immune cell function. This breakthrough points to an additional strategy for survival in the human host.
