The article critiques the short story (SS) "Severance," by Robert Olen Butler. The characters and plot line are explored. The author discusses Butler's use of the technique of imaginative distortion which suggests the stylistic changes in his SS writing. She also compares Butler's micronarratives to that of Indian British novelist Salman Rushdie.
